A quiet Thursday afternoon on Chicago's Near West Side erupted into violence when multiple gunmen pulled up in a white vehicle and opened fire on a man in broad daylight, leaving him critically wounded, according to police. The attack happened as the victim was getting out of a car on the 500 block of South Claremont Avenue around 2:40 p.m.
What happened
The victim was hit several times across his body and rushed to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, according to CBS Chicago. Investigators said a white vehicle pulled up alongside the victim before multiple people inside opened fire. The shooters then took off in an unknown direction, and Belmont Area detectives were called in to handle the investigation, the outlet reported.

Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where the man was taken, sits in the Illinois Medical District at 1901 W. Harrison Street. The Cook County Health system describes Stroger as a 450-bed teaching hospital that provides emergency and trauma care, according to Cook County Health.
