
A late-night argument near Abbott Park in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood turned deadly Saturday, leaving a 36-year-old man shot multiple times and a community once again reeling from gun violence on the Far South Side. He was rushed to a suburban hospital and later died, as Calumet Area detectives opened a homicide investigation.
What police say
Around 9:50 p.m., the 36-year-old man was near Abbott Park at 95th Street and State Street when another man walked up and the two began arguing, according to CBS Chicago. Police said the dispute turned physical and the second man pulled a gun, shooting the victim multiple times before running off north toward 95th Street.
The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was later pronounced dead, CBS Chicago reported. No one was in custody as of Sunday morning, and Calumet Area detectives are handling the investigation.

Abbott (Robert) Park, a Chicago Park District site that includes ballfields, a pool and a fieldhouse, sits at 49 E. 95th St. in Roseland and is used for youth programming and summer sports, according to the Chicago Park District. Victim taken to hospital
After the shooting, the man was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and later died. Advocate lists its main campus at 4440 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn, on the southwest suburban border, underscoring how often city residents rely on nearby suburban hospitals in the wake of serious violence.
The shooting remains under investigation, and authorities have not released a suspect description or a possible motive.
