A quiet stretch of Highway 92 northwest of La Moille turned into an emergency scene Wednesday when a truck left the roadway near a creek. Fire crews from La Moille, backed up by mutual-aid departments from Mendota and Malden, converged on the rural spot and treated the driver for head pain while a Life Flight helicopter was called in to carry the patient to Mendota. Authorities say the vehicle may have rolled after leaving the highway.
According to WLPO, first responders were notified a little before 6 o'clock Wednesday after the truck crashed just off Highway 92. The crash triggered a Life Flight response, on-scene medical care, and an airlift to a Mendota hospital.
Where crews staged and where the patient went
The stretch where crews worked runs past property owned by Northern Partners Cooperative along Highway 92 in La Moille. OSF Saint Paul Medical Center in Mendota is the region's nearest emergency hospital and commonly receives airlifted patients.
What officials said
WLPO reported that emergency personnel initially planned to land the helicopter on property owned by Northern Partners Cooperative but instead used a nearby landing zone, and that the chopper was headed to OSF Saint Paul Medical Center in Mendota. The La Moille Fire Department provided a scene photo to local media, and crews stayed on site while the patient was flown to Mendota for further treatment.
