Felix Rosenqvist, the winner of the 110th Indianapolis 500, is officially on the move. Team owner Mike Shank said Wednesday that Rosenqvist will leave Meyer Shank Racing after the 2026 season and is expected to race for another IndyCar team in 2027. The news lands less than a month after Rosenqvist’s last-lap victory at Indianapolis and immediately shakes up the driver market, putting one of the series’ most sought-after seats in play.
In a statement to The Indianapolis Star, Shank said Rosenqvist informed the team he would depart after the 2026 campaign and "will race for a new team in 2027." The Star also reported that the Indy 500 win "woke some people up," a line that has echoed around the paddock as teams quietly size up their summer options.
How the Indy 500 Win Changed the Calculus
Rosenqvist’s May victory, the closest finish in Indianapolis 500 history, sent his market value soaring, as coverage from NBC Sports documented. The series' official driver page still lists Rosenqvist in the No. 60 Honda for Meyer Shank Racing, a detail that keeps him firmly on the radar for teams hunting proven oval experience.
Silly Season Fallout And Suitors
Marshall Pruett at RACER reports MSR is doing all it can to keep Rosenqvist but that "there’s a growing belief that he’s chosen to leave for greener pastures," and that multiple well-funded teams have already made overtures. If a switch happens, the domino effect could touch Andretti Global, Arrow McLaren and other major outfits as they reposition for 2027.
Next up is the less glamorous part of the drama: contract negotiations and timing. Teams and Rosenqvist’s camp will now weigh money, competitive prospects and manufacturer relationships, while fans and paddock watchers can expect announcements to trickle out over the summer as offers are formalized and seats are confirmed.
