A store clerk was rushed to the hospital in critical condition Tuesday after being stabbed outside a business in New Orleans' Irish Channel, turning a familiar neighborhood block into an active crime scene.
Police say a suspect is in custody
Authorities have identified the person taken into custody as 37-year-old Roy Holmes, who allegedly stabbed the clerk in the head three times after the employee confronted him about allegedly taking merchandise on the 700 block of Washington Avenue, according to WGNO. The victim was taken to a hospital and listed in critical condition, the outlet reports.

Officers shut down the 700 block of Washington Avenue while detectives gathered evidence and canvassed for witnesses. The stretch of road, part of the Irish Channel and lined with small shops and late-night businesses, saw foot traffic slow as the heavy police presence focused on the stabbing investigation.
