A Jackson County family is in shock after a multi-vehicle crash on I-65 South left an 11-year-old boy dead and three adults hospitalized. The child, known to loved ones as "King," died at the scene, while relatives say his mother is on life support. In the days since the wreck, they describe life as a blur of hospital visits and funeral planning.
According to WAVE3, the four-car collision on I-65 South over the weekend killed 11-year-old Koran "King" Bethel and sent three adults to the hospital. Family members told WAVE3 that the passengers included King’s mother, aunt and a family friend, and that his mother, Kerri Bethel, is currently on life support. "He would brighten your day," a cousin said in the WAVE3 interview.
Fundraiser helps with costs
The family has launched a GoFundMe organized by Kimberly Bethel to help cover funeral and medical expenses. The campaign lists the crash date as May 30 and shows $7,085 raised toward a $9,000 goal. The fundraiser description asks for support with King’s funeral costs and help for the family as Kerri fights to recover.
Sister steps in as family waits
Relatives told WAVE3 that much of the funeral planning has fallen to King’s oldest sister, a 19-year-old who is now handling arrangements while the family waits for word on her mother’s condition. Pamela Paris, King’s grandmother, told WAVE3, "We're going to have to bury him without her even seeing him." The family is asking for prayers and privacy as they grieve and work to gather the resources they need.
