Where It Happened
Ziegler Park, located at 1322 Sycamore Street, straddles the line between Over-the-Rhine and Pendleton and includes a pool, playground, and a large lawn, according to the park’s official site. The space is programmed and maintained by 3CDC, which oversees events and youth programming designed to bring families into the park.
A Pattern of Gunfire Near the Park
The area surrounding Ziegler Park has seen repeated gunfire in recent years. WCPO reported that in June 2022, police said more than 30 shots were fired at the park. In November 2022, a gunfight near the area sent a stray bullet into a nearby building and wounded an innocent bystander, coverage by FOX19 showed.
Efforts to Reduce Violence and How to Help
Local leaders and park managers have pursued physical changes and programming intended to make Main Street and Ziegler Park safer. 3CDC led an expansion and activation effort that organizers said would improve pedestrian safety and give staff more ability to manage the space.
