A man with multiple gunshot wounds turned up at a South Florida hospital Sunday morning shortly after reports of gunfire along the 4000 block of Northwest 21st Street in Lauderhill. He first sought help at Florida Medical Center, then was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center for more intensive treatment. Lauderhill police say the case is very much active and, so far, they are keeping most details under wraps.
What police say so far
According to Local 10, officers were called around 9:45 a.m. for reports of shots fired on the 4000 block of Northwest 21st Street but did not find anyone wounded when they checked the area. Moments later, they were alerted that a man had walked into Florida Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale with multiple gunshot wounds. He was then transferred to Broward Health Medical Center for additional care. Detectives are now trying to piece together what happened and where, and are asking anyone with information to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
Lauderhill's recent trend
In March, Hoodline reported that gunfire at a Lauderhill plaza sent two men to the hospital, another reminder that shootings have cropped up across the city this year. CBS Miami has also detailed earlier deadly strip-mall shootings in Lauderhill, underscoring a broader pattern local officials say they are working to confront. City leaders have rolled out violence-prevention initiatives in recent months, while police keep stressing that community tips are still key to breaking these cases.
How to help investigators
Lauderhill Police list their non-emergency line as 954-497-4700 and offer contact information and reporting options on the city website. The Lauderhill Police Department reiterates the Broward Crime Stoppers tip line, and Broward Crime Stoppers notes that tips can be submitted anonymously and may qualify for a reward. Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area and has dash-cam or cell phone video, or who heard or saw anything suspicious, to share it with them to help move the investigation forward.
