Midday gunfire rattled a west Las Vegas neighborhood on Tuesday, sending one person to the hospital and another into police custody, according to officers at the scene.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded around 2 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 900 block of West Bartlett Avenue, near Carey Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard. One person was found with injuries that officers described as non-life-threatening and was taken to a local hospital.
As reported by KLAS (8 News Now), officers detained one person at the scene while detectives worked the block, processing evidence and interviewing anyone who might have seen or heard what happened. Metro said the investigation is ongoing.
Police Response And Recent Incidents
Detectives stayed on scene collecting shell casings, canvassing for surveillance cameras and talking with potential witnesses as they tried to piece together what led up to the gunfire. The shooting lands on a growing list of violent calls the department has handled this month, adding pressure to already busy patrol and investigative units.
Earlier this month, Metro detailed an officer-involved shooting on June 3 in a department press release. That account was provided by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
How To Help Investigators
Police are asking anyone who was in the area around the time of the shooting, or who has information about the incident, to contact Crime Stoppers of Nevada at (702) 385-5555 or to submit an anonymous tip online. The tip line operates 24/7, and information is forwarded directly to investigators.
Metro is also urging potential witnesses to preserve any cell phone video, photos or security footage that might show what happened and to share it with detectives or through Crime Stoppers.
The investigation remains active, and Metro has not released the names of the detained person or the victim, nor any potential charges. This story will be updated if officials release additional details.
