Sunday lunch hour at a Whitehaven apartment complex turned violent when gunfire left a man dead and a woman fighting for her life, according to Memphis police. Officers rushed to the complex, found both victims injured, and had them transported to local hospitals. The man did not survive. The woman remains in critical condition as detectives work to piece together what happened and who pulled the trigger.
What Police Said
The Memphis Police Department told WREG that officers responded around noon to the 1600 block of Branchway Drive at the Winbranch Apartments near Millbranch Road. When they arrived, they found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were rushed to the hospital in critical condition, police said. The man later died from his injuries, while the woman remains hospitalized in critical condition. Officials told the station that the circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation.

For Whitehaven residents, the latest shooting is a grim addition to a pattern of apartment-complex violence in the neighborhood. Suspect Description And Tips
Police are still searching for a suspect described as a man wearing a black hoodie and jogging pants with red stripes, the department told WREG. No arrests have been announced.
