A body was recovered from Lake Pontchartrain on Tuesday morning near the 2000 block of Lakeshore Drive, according to the New Orleans Police Department. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office is set to perform an autopsy and will release the victim’s identity only after family members have been notified. The case remains under investigation, and police have not released additional details about the circumstances.
As reported by WGNO, NOPD officers responded to a call Tuesday and located the remains in the water when they arrived on scene. The station’s report notes that officers were working to determine how to classify the death while the coroner prepares to conduct the autopsy.
According to WBRZ, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office told reporters it will not release the victim’s name or cause of death until the autopsy is complete and relatives have been informed. Police have also not said how the person ended up in the lake, keeping key questions unanswered as the investigation continues.
