Someone in Pembroke Pines went grocery shopping and walked out nearly $110,000 richer without even knowing it.
A Fantasy 5 ticket sold at the Publix at 1657 N. Hiatus Road matched all five numbers in Monday night’s evening drawing, good for a $109,962 prize. The winning numbers: 6, 8, 14, 17 and 24. It was the only major draw-game jackpot reported in South Florida on Monday.
As reported by the Miami Herald, the lucky slip from that Hiatus Road Publix matched all five of those numbers for the $109,962 haul. The Herald also noted that Monday’s midday Fantasy 5 and the Monday night Powerball produced no top winners, and that the Powerball jackpot is an estimated $238 million heading into Wednesday’s drawing.
How to claim the prize
This is not the kind of ticket you cash at the customer service counter.
Prizes of this size must be redeemed at a Florida Lottery district office rather than at the retail register. According to the Florida Lottery, the Miami Lakes district office - the closest to Pembroke Pines - is at 14621 Oak Lane and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments may be arranged at [email protected] or by calling 305-364-3080.
Winners should sign the back of the ticket, bring photo identification and tax information, and remember most draw-game prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing.
Publix's South Florida streak
If it feels like Publix registers have been spitting out more winners lately, local coverage is on your side.
Publix stores have been a regular source of winning Fantasy 5 tickets in South Florida this spring, with several six-figure winners reported at different Broward and Palm Beach locations. Local coverage by Pembroke Pines News and other outlets has tracked multiple wins tied to supermarket registers in recent months, underscoring how frequently winners turn up at grocery counters.
If you think you might be holding the lucky ticket from that Hiatus Road store, check your numbers, sign the back of the ticket and contact the Miami Lakes district office to schedule an appointment. For official rules and what to bring, see the Florida Lottery’s winner resources.
