A burglary follow-up in Miami Beach turned bizarre and then violent when detectives say they found a naked man inside an apartment, chased him through the neighborhood, and ended up in a scuffle that left one detective injured.

Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Cristian Diazmore. According to investigators, detectives were checking out a reported burglary at an apartment building at 7610 Harding Avenue when things went sideways. A day earlier, someone had reported a break-in at the property. When detectives returned to follow up, housekeeping staff told them a man had been spotted peering through a unit’s window shortly before officers got there.

A detective went inside the apartment and, according to police, found Diazmore naked in a hallway. Officers say Diazmore bolted through a back door and took off running. He was later seen in an alley behind the Temple Menorah school, where detectives moved in for an arrest.

NBC6 South Florida reports that the chase ended when detectives cornered Diazmore and he allegedly “took a fighting stance.” One detective, who police say was left with facial swelling and an injured elbow, struck Diazmore before officers were able to get him into custody.

A familiar face to police

Diazmore is not exactly an unknown name at Miami Beach PD. He was arrested in January in a case that, according to neighbors and Ring-camera footage, tied him to a run of package thefts in the North Beach area. As reported by WSVN 7News, police records already listed prior arrests for battery and aggravated assault. Investigators said that history helped them quickly zero in on Diazmore in this latest incident, and residents told the station that stolen items were recovered in those earlier cases.

Charges and next steps

Miami-Dade jail records show Diazmore was booked on charges that include battery on a police officer, resisting an officer with violence, and burglary of an unoccupied dwelling. He was taken into county custody.

According to NBC6 South Florida, Diazmore was expected to appear in bond court on Tuesday.
