The curtain is up again in downtown Napa as the newly christened Napa Music Hall settles into the 146-year-old Napa Valley Opera House, giving the historic landmark a fresh role as a live-music hub. The venue now runs as a two-space operation: The Club on the ground floor, an intimate room of roughly 160 seats, and an upstairs Ballroom built for about 650 standing patrons with some balcony seating. Owner John Truchard says his goal is to book big-name acts, local talent and a fuller, year-round calendar that keeps Main Street buzzing.
Two Rooms, Two Very Different Nights Out
The Club fills the first floor and is set up for sit-down nights with a menu of elevated comfort food, Napa Valley wines and craft cocktails. Upstairs, the Ballroom has been outfitted with new sound, updated lighting and fresh paint to host high-energy standing shows, according to Napa Music Hall.
Hours, Locals Night and Brunch on the Horizon
Public hours are scheduled from Wednesday through Sunday, 5 PM to 1 AM. The venue plans a no-cover “Locals Night” every Wednesday from 5 to 10 PM, and a Sunday brunch offering is expected soon, according to The Press Democrat.
A Napa Native’s Playbook
Truchard, a Napa native and vintner-turned-impresario who founded John Anthony Wines and co-founded JaM Cellars, bought the Napa Valley Opera House in 2019 and has guided the rebrand to emphasize heritage and community. “What BottleRock did was put Napa on the map for music,” he told The Press Democrat. He says Napa Music Hall should honor the valley’s history while bringing bigger nights and new local-friendly programming.
Ambitious Calendar and First Wave of Shows
The hall plans to present roughly 200 shows a year on its own and, combined with the Uptown Theatre, help deliver about 350 live events downtown, per a PR Newswire release. The Club opened its public programming this week: the first Club show featured singer-songwriter Brett Dennen on Tuesday, and a fuller summer calendar is live on the venue’s event pages at Napa Music Hall.
