A quiet stretch of Chicago's Near West Side turned into a crime scene before dawn Thursday when a drive-by shooting left three people wounded, police said. The attack happened at about 3:12 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street, where two women, ages 59 and 43, and a 24-year-old man were standing outside when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire. Paramedics rushed the 59-year-old woman to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The 24-year-old man was also taken to Stroger with leg wounds and listed in fair condition, while the 43-year-old woman was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition.
Police: Black vehicle opened fire
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, witnesses told officers a black vehicle pulled up on Hastings, someone inside started shooting, and the car then fled east along the block. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that police made no immediate arrests and that Area 3 detectives were assigned to the case. Authorities had released few additional details late Thursday as the investigation continued.
1300 block has a recent history of shootings
The 1300 block of West Hastings, in the University Village/Little Italy area, has seen multiple shootings in recent years, including mass shootings tied to large gatherings, as reported by CBS Chicago. The stretch sits near public housing and the Illinois Medical District and has drawn repeated police attention during past spikes in violence. Residents and community groups have for years pushed for more patrols and more resources aimed at preventing late-night shootings on the Near West Side.

No arrests were reported as of Thursday morning, and Area 3 detectives remained listed as the investigating unit, per the Chicago Sun-Times.
