
Two 18-year-olds were hit by gunfire on a South Side block early Monday, leaving a young woman in critical condition and a young man with a foot wound after a shooting in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood, according to police.
According to ABC7 Chicago, the shots rang out around 3:39 a.m. in the 400-block of West 61st Street. Both teens were standing outside when they were struck. The woman was hit several times and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. The man, who was shot in the foot, was also transported to the same hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
Overnight Violence Across the City
The Englewood attack unfolded amid a rough stretch of overnight gun violence citywide. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that at least 15 people were shot from Saturday night into Sunday morning, with several of the victims younger than 20. Those shootings were spread across multiple neighborhoods and sent victims to different hospitals, underscoring ongoing public-safety concerns on the South Side.
What Police Say
Area One detectives are handling the Englewood case and, as of the initial reports, no arrests had been announced, according to ABC7 Chicago. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact police as they work to piece together what led up to the shooting.
