A man was shot just before 5 a.m. Friday on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach and rushed to Jackson Memorial’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, officials said. The early-morning gunfire triggered a heavy police presence that briefly tangled traffic along the oceanfront artery. Miami Beach police have not released the victim’s name.
Police describe scene and response
According to CBS Miami, officers responded to the 6700 block of Collins Avenue just before 5 a.m. and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Miami Beach Fire Department crews transported the victim to Ryder Trauma in critical condition. Police shut down northbound traffic on Collins at 67th Street, sending cars west onto Harding Avenue and Indian Creek Drive while they worked the scene. The shooting remains under investigation.

Collins Avenue has already seen serious trouble this year. In March, a hit-and-run killed two tourists on the strip, as reported by the Miami Herald.
