Royal Palm Beach is grieving a rising basketball talent after a weekend vigil drew dozens of people to LaMancha Park to honor 17-year-old Christian Larosiliere, a recent Royal Palm Beach Community High School graduate who died in a single-vehicle crash. Friends, relatives, teachers and coaches showed up in blue, ringed candles around his photos and traded stories about his restless energy, his favorite music and his plans to become a dentist. Loved ones said they still do not know what caused the crash.
According to WPTV, Larosiliere had just left a basketball tournament Friday night when the crash occurred. He was transported to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, where he later died. HCA Florida's website lists Lawnwood Hospital at a Fort Pierce address.
Teammates remember his energy
On the court, friends and teammates said, Larosiliere was the kind of player who could flip the mood of a gym in a single possession. They described him as bright, loud in the best way and impossible to ignore, and said they plan to carry his spirit with them into next season. "It really hurts," teammate David Alexis told WPTV. His player profile on MaxPreps lists Larosiliere as a varsity guard for Royal Palm Beach Community High School.
