A late-night home invasion on Indianapolis' south side has left one man hospitalized, a child traumatized and three members of the same family facing a stack of felony charges, according to police and court records.
Investigators say the June 7 break-in involved the pistol-whipping of two men, the abduction of a girl under 14 and the theft of several gaming consoles and a phone. Warrants are now out for all three defendants, and detectives are still working to pin down why the apartment was targeted in the first place.
As reported by WTHR, court paperwork identifies the suspects as Shantee Allen, Theodore Allen and Patrick Martin, and places the encounter at an apartment complex on the city's south side. The filings cited by the outlet list charges that include burglary with a deadly weapon, armed robbery, intimidation and theft.
Charges Listed In Court Filings
Indiana Courts records reviewed by reporters show that Shantee Allen is charged with kidnapping where the victim is less than 14 years of age and battery with a deadly weapon. Theodore Allen and Patrick Martin are each charged with multiple counts of battery by means of a deadly weapon and related weapons counts, the filings say.
According to details described by WTHR, investigators allege two males inside the apartment were pistol-whipped, with one man losing consciousness and later taken to Eskenazi Health for treatment. Court documents quoted by the outlet say the suspects stole an Xbox Series S, a PlayStation 4 Pro, a PlayStation 4 and an iPhone 16e, and that during the chaos, Shantee Allen told the girl, "some people just need to learn a lesson," adding "come with me" and "you do not need to see this."
Legal Implications
Kidnapping and battery with a deadly weapon are felony offenses under Indiana law and can carry lengthy prison terms, especially when a child victim or a firearm is involved. For a breakdown of the relevant statutes and potential penalties, see the overview of Indiana criminal law on Justia.
What Happens Next
Warrants for all three suspects have been issued, and investigators say arrests are pending as they chase down leads, including camera footage that helped them locate a vehicle linked to the case. The filings also note that two adult victims were unable to pick the trio from a photo lineup, according to Indiana Courts records, and prosecutors will have to sort out witness identification issues and other evidence before any trial dates are set.
