Friday evening in the Loop turned tense when two people were stabbed along busy State Street, according to Chicago fire officials. Chopper 7 hovered overhead as police vehicles boxed in the intersection at State and Lake, with officers stringing up crime scene tape while investigators combed the area.
According to ABC7 Chicago, the Chicago Police Department shut down the intersection as a full investigation got underway. The station reported that, as crews worked the scene, no additional details were immediately available.
Another violent incident in the Loop
Friday's attack lands on a growing list of violent incidents downtown this year. In January, a deadly pre-dawn stabbing at the Clark/Lake CTA hub jolted early commuters. In March, two people were stabbed aboard a CTA train and taken to the hospital, according to NBC Chicago. By mid-May, a fight outside a Walgreens on North State ended with a man seriously injured in another stabbing, CBS Chicago reported.
Police lock down the scene
Chicago police officers and fire crews stayed on scene into Friday night as detectives documented evidence and worked the intersection, according to ABC7 Chicago. By late evening, authorities had not released any suspect description or updates on the victims' conditions.
What happens next
The CPD investigation is ongoing. Detectives are expected to pull surveillance footage from nearby businesses and talk with witnesses to piece together how the State Street stabbing unfolded. This story will be updated as officials release more information or announce any charges.
