Memphis police are on the hunt for a man accused of unleashing a burst of gunfire at a driver on Summer Avenue on Thursday afternoon, striking the victim’s vehicle and a nearby business but leaving the motorist unhurt.
The Memphis Police Department says officers were called to the 3600 block of Summer Avenue around 2:30 p.m. on June 18 after the suspect allegedly fired multiple shots as the driver tried to get away. Investigators released a surveillance-style photo and described the suspect as a Black male with cornrows, wearing a black T-shirt, gray shorts, and black-and-white shoes, and urged anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 901-528-CASH, according to the Memphis Police Department.
Police Appeal for Tips
Local station FOX13 Memphis published the surveillance image and repeated the police description, noting that no injuries were reported. According to the station’s coverage, investigators are going over video footage and speaking with witnesses as they work to put a name to the shooter’s face.
Summer Avenue Has Seen Repeated Shootings
The same stretch of Summer Avenue has been the backdrop for multiple shootings in recent years, including a January incident in the Binghampton area that left two people critically injured, as reported by Action News 5. More recent local coverage indicating the corridor remains a focus for both detectives and worried residents shows the avenue has stayed on law enforcement’s radar.
MPD says the investigation into Thursday’s shooting is ongoing and that no arrests have been made. Detectives are asking anyone with video, photos or tips to contact Crimestoppers at 901-528-CASH or call the department’s non-emergency line, according to the Memphis Police Department. Officers say they are continuing to review surveillance clips and witness statements as the search for the suspect continues.
