An hourslong armed standoff in the Alto area of Franklin County ended Monday without injuries after shots were fired inside a home and the man inside finally surrendered to law enforcement. Deputies took one person into custody and hauled out a dozen firearms along with tactical gear from the house.

Franklin County Sheriff's Office deputies were called around 9 a.m. Monday for a report of shots fired at a home in the Alto area. At the scene, a man told officers that James Matthew Bell had fired a pistol multiple times and assaulted him. Deputies say they saw several firearms inside the residence and learned that Bell had two outstanding warrants and previous military training, according to WZTV.

FBI Negotiators Brought In

Officers tried repeatedly to reach Bell by phone and over a PA system, but he would not come out. With the situation dragging on, they called in support from the FBI's Nashville office and the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency, and negotiators worked to re-establish contact.

After a breaching tool was used to open the front door, Bell walked out of the house and was taken into custody without resistance, bringing the standoff to a close.
