Leon Valley’s latest fried chicken contender is sliding into an empty slot on Bandera Road, with Bojangles set to take over the former Taco Cabana at 6040 Bandera Road. Construction on the franchised restaurant is expected to kick off in August, with owners targeting a fall 2026 opening. The move continues a run of national quick-serve brands recycling older storefronts along the corridor and adds another early-morning biscuit stop to the northwest side lineup.
According to the San Antonio Business Journal, the Bandera Road restaurant will operate as a franchise location, not a company-owned store, and will be built out within the former Taco Cabana space. The publication reports that construction is slated to begin in August.
Bojangles' Texas Momentum
Bojangles has been steadily muscling into Texas since 2023, when it opened its first San Antonio outpost on Potranco Road and began loading up its development pipeline as part of a national growth push. The company’s own Bojangles corporate news notes that more than 270 units were added to its pipeline in 2023 as the brand moved beyond its traditional Southeastern footprint. On the ground, that growth has already translated into serious curiosity: Eater Austin reported long lines when the Potranco Road restaurant opened in 2023.
Local Rollout and Timing
The Bandera Road restaurant is just one piece of a broader San Antonio rollout. A Bojangles media representative told MySA that franchise partners are lining up multiple local sites, including the 6040 Bandera Road location and another at FM 78 and Walzem Road, both slated for fall 2026, plus a restaurant at 11043 FM 471 that is targeted for early 2027. “We’re looking forward to growing our presence and being involved in the San Antonio community,” franchisee Terrence Thames told MySA. Taken together, those timelines put the Bandera restaurant on pace with other northwest-side openings in the queue.
What It Means for Bandera Road
Leon Valley is already logging the project in its development paperwork. City permit filings list 6040 Bandera Road among recent commercial activity, a small but telling piece of the corridor’s ongoing redevelopment pattern. According to Leon Valley permit records, restaurant projects and remodels are common as property owners flip older chain locations into fresh brands. The upcoming Bojangles will be another reuse of an existing restaurant footprint and is expected to generate construction work during buildout, followed by hourly jobs once the fryers are fired up.
