Vallejo police are investigating a suspected homicide after an adult woman was found unresponsive on Monday in the landscaped infield between the Interstate 80 east ramp and Steffan Street. Officers were called to the area at about 2:29 PM, and Vallejo Fire personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Her body was later taken to the Solano County coroner’s office for further examination. Police say the killing is now counted as Vallejo’s seventh homicide of the year.
According to the Vallejo Police Department, detectives and the Solano County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office noted visible injuries on the woman, and yesterday the coroner determined that she died from blunt force trauma. The department said its Detective Division has taken over the case and activated its Neighborhood Impact Team. IHART staff were sent into the neighborhood to provide trauma-informed outreach and connect nearby residents and businesses with support services.

Another fatality the same day
In a separate case the same day, officers were called late Monday night to a shooting on Lainey Court, a killing that further underscored what has been an especially violent stretch in Vallejo this month. NBC Bay Area reported that the Lainey Court shooting was investigated as the city’s sixth homicide and that the Neighborhood Impact Team and IHART also responded there to support the affected community.
A pattern of recent violence
Vallejo has logged several other homicides this year. A June shooting on Georgia Street was detailed by the San Francisco Chronicle, and a March case in which a body was found behind police headquarters was covered by SFGATE. In each instance, investigators have leaned on community tips and paired detectives' work with outreach teams that help connect families and neighbors with resources while cases remain open.
As for the Steffan Street killing, investigators have not announced any arrests, and the case remains active.
