Gunfire ripped through a South Nashville stretch of Thompson Lane on Thursday night after what Metro Nashville police say was a drug deal that suddenly turned violent. Officers swarmed the area near the railway tunnel bridge and quickly launched an active investigation into the shootout.

According to WKRN News 2, the gunfire broke out in a parking lot during a drug transaction, and multiple people bolted from the scene, either on foot or by car. Nearly a dozen Metro patrol vehicles reportedly packed into the 500 block of Thompson Lane as detectives searched the area and collected shell casings and other evidence.

Violence Has Hit This Stretch Before

This corridor of Thompson Lane is no stranger to serious calls. In July 2024, a parking-lot shooting at the Covenant Crossing apartments off Thompson Lane left a man seriously injured, as reported by WSMV. The station also covered a December 2023 case in which a man found shot in the same general area later died, according to WSMV.

Investigation Ongoing

Metro police told WKRN News 2 the investigation remains active. Authorities have not yet released details about any victims or arrests as detectives continue to work the case, processing evidence and interviewing witnesses. Officers are also canvassing nearby businesses and homes and reviewing any available video footage as the probe moves forward.

This story will be updated as Metro Nashville police or other agencies release additional information.
