A 13-year-old was sleeping in a southwest Atlanta bedroom early Thursday when gunfire struck the home, turning a quiet overnight stretch into a frightening scene. No one was injured, but multiple rounds hit the residence.
Atlanta police officers responded around 1:25 a.m. to the 800 block of Coleman Street SW, where they found bullet damage to the home, including the child’s bedroom, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Witnesses told police they heard several gunshots in the neighborhood, while investigators have not released a suspect description, possible motive or information about any arrests.
Southwest Atlanta Has Seen Children Caught In Gunfire
The latest shooting echoes an April incident in southwest Atlanta in which a sleeping 7-year-old was wounded during a drive-by shooting that also damaged three apartment units. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that police had not identified a suspect in that case, underscoring how quickly gunfire can turn homes into danger zones even when residents are not involved.
Coleman Street Saw A Fatal Shooting In February
Coleman Street has also been the scene of deadly gunfire this year. The Atlanta Police Department said officers responded on February 15 to 905 Coleman Street SW, where a man was found wounded and later died at Grady Memorial Hospital; Hoodline previously reported on that investigation.
