Greater Cincinnati’s arts scene is getting a serious cash infusion, as ArtsWave signs off on nearly $9 million in grants for 46 local organizations and kicks off a fresh three-year funding cycle just in time for its approach to a 100th birthday. The idea is simple but ambitious: keep the lights on, the doors open, and the ticket prices reasonable at arts venues across the tri-state.
Who Gets the Biggest Slice
The ArtsWave Board of Trustees approved a total of $8,971,278 in Sustaining Impact grants, according to a list published by WKRC Local 12. The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra topped the awards chart at $2.3 million. The Cincinnati Art Museum followed with $1.285 million, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park received $1.06 million, Cincinnati Ballet was awarded $810,000, and Cincinnati Opera took home $683,850.
Neighborhood Stages Get Their Moment
It is not just the marquee names cashing in. Smaller and neighborhood-based groups are in the mix, too. Q-Kidz Dance landed its first Sustaining Impact award, while Wave Pool returned to the program after a two-year break. The money comes out of ArtsWave’s 2026 Community Campaign, and the 46 recipients were chosen by 58 volunteer community reviewers, as reported by WKRC Local 12. Grant amounts range from multimillion dollar boosts to more modest checks in the thousands, covering everything from legacy institutions to hyper-local projects.
What the Money Is Supposed to Do
Sustaining Impact grants are unrestricted, multi-year operating awards, designed to provide predictable revenue for programming and planning through fiscal years 2027 to 2029, according to ArtsWave. Awards are calibrated to each group’s budget size and documented community impact, with the goal of giving organizations enough stability to grow outreach, education and free or low-cost offerings.
As ArtsWave heads toward its centennial year, board leaders are framing this funding round as both steady support for big-name institutions and targeted investment to keep arts programming active in neighborhoods across Cincinnati, as reported by NKyTribune.
