A Loop sandwich shop was surrounded by police tape Friday morning after what appeared to be a vehicle-assisted break-in, leaving the corner of Clark and Van Buren looking like a crash scene before the workday had fully begun. Investigators were still sorting out what happened as the case remained in its earliest hours.
ABC7 Chicago reported that crews were at Americana Submarine Shop around 5:50 a.m. Police told the station the incident appeared to be a crash-and-grab, but an official police report had not yet been released.
Another Chicago Business Hit Before Sunrise
The apparent break-in fits a pattern seen in several recent Chicago cases, where vehicles are used to smash through storefronts before suspects rush inside. In May, Hoodline reported that an SUV was driven into a South Side sandwich shop and used in an ATM theft, while CBS Chicago reported a similar early-morning attack at the Golden Apple restaurant in Lakeview.
The Loop has also seen another recent apparent crash-and-grab attempt. In June, ABC7 Chicago reported that a black Jeep crashed into a Circle K near Adams and Franklin, where suspects tried to take an ATM before abandoning it.
Police Have Released Few Details
As of the initial report Friday, police had not publicly identified suspects, described any stolen property or said whether anyone was injured. Detectives are continuing to investigate, and additional details could emerge once an official report is released.
