Early Thursday on Meharry Boulevard, Nashville firefighters pulled two men from a burning duplex after arriving to find heavy smoke and flames pouring from the home. One man was discovered semi-conscious and taken to an area hospital, while another was evacuated and treated at the scene for breathing problems, officials said.

Nashville Fire units responded at about 8:15 a.m. to 2502 Meharry Blvd., where crews found smoke and flames coming from the two-story residence and learned someone remained inside. The department called a “Code Red,” which triggers an immediate interior search while other crews work to knock down the fire. As reported by WSMV, firefighters located a semi-conscious man who was removed and transported, and a second man who was evacuated and treated on scene for breathing issues.

The “Code Red” designation signals an urgent search for trapped occupants and is used when crews believe people may still be inside a burning building. As outlined by the Nashville Fire Department, that call can require firefighters to carry out rapid interior searches even as suppression efforts continue.

Fire investigators responded to the scene, and the cause and origin of the blaze remain under review, officials told WSMV. The department did not immediately release the men’s names or provide additional details about their conditions.
