What started as a late-night round of tugging on car door handles in northwest Miami-Dade ended with a 23-year-old walking himself into jail.
Deputies say Isaac Alexander Jiron surrendered Wednesday at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after investigators tied him to a string of overnight vehicle burglaries in the Country Club section of the county. Jail records show he was booked after arriving at the facility to turn himself in.
According to deputies, surveillance video connected Jiron to attempts on several parked cars and to two burglaries at a neighboring home. In one of those vehicles, investigators say, there was roughly $14,000 in cash stashed in the center console.
What deputies say
According to WPLG Local 10, the series of incidents began around 2 a.m. on July 14 in the 7700 block of Northwest 200 Lane in the Country Club area.
The arrest report says surveillance video captured a person pulling on door handles at an occupied single-family home. Some of those attempts went nowhere because the vehicles were locked, deputies told the station.
Investigators say the same suspect then moved to a neighboring property, where two vehicles were burglarized. One of those cars, according to the report, had about $14,000 in cash secured inside the center console.
Video evidence and recent pattern
Surveillance footage has been doing a lot of the heavy lifting for detectives lately in Miami-Dade, and this case is not the only one.
NBC 6 reported in June that video evidence helped deputies link a suspect to a separate string of car thefts and attempted burglaries in Coral Gables, part of what investigators describe as an increasingly common pattern across the county.
Charges and custody status
Jail records show Jiron faces two counts each of burglary of an occupied dwelling, burglary of an occupied conveyance, attempted burglary of an occupied conveyance, and trespassing of an unoccupied structure or conveyance. He also faces one count of third-degree grand theft of a dwelling or curtilage.
The arrest report notes that Jiron invoked his Miranda rights and refused to answer questions without a lawyer present.
As of Wednesday afternoon, records listed him as still being held at Turner Guilford Knight. His bond was marked as “to be set,” with a Nebbia hold on the case. That hold requires proof that any money used to post bond comes from a legitimate source, according to WPLG Local 10.

Investigators continue to hammer home some basic advice that seems tailor-made for cases like this: lock your vehicles, pull valuables out of sight, and take a look at your home-security footage if you notice anything off overnight.
