A man was killed and a woman wounded early Sunday in a burst of gunfire that cut through the quiet of Chicago’s South Chicago neighborhood. The two were standing outside on the 8900 block of South Escanaba Avenue around 3:07 a.m. when shots rang out, according to officials. The man was hit in the neck, and the woman, reported as 32 years old, was struck in the chest.

According to CBS Chicago, the man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The woman got herself to Advocate Trinity Hospital and was listed in good condition. Calumet Area detectives were investigating the shooting Sunday morning.
