A weekend ride ended in tragedy in rural Redwood County, where a man in his 40s was killed Saturday afternoon after his motorcycle left the roadway on a curve and crashed into a ditch, authorities said. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene after the bike struck a roadside sign.
According to KEYC, the single-vehicle crash happened around 4:24 p.m. at the intersection of County State-Aid Highway 46 and County State-Aid Highway 8. Deputies told the station the rider lost control while negotiating the curve. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of family.
Emergency Response At Rural Intersection
The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Minnesota State Patrol, CentraCare Ambulance, the Vesta Fire Department, Vesta first responders and the Wood Lake Fire Department, according to My KLGR. Investigators stayed on site as crews cleared the area and documented the crash scene.
Deadly Season For Minnesota Riders
The fatal crash comes in the middle of a rough riding season across Minnesota. The Star Tribune reported that motorcycle deaths on state roads had more than doubled by mid June. State traffic safety officials told regional outlets the Office of Traffic Safety had recorded 37 rider fatalities by early July, and they pointed to speed, inexperience and impairment as frequent factors, according to KFGO.
Investigation Still Underway
The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional information as the investigation continues, and officials said the rider’s identity will be made public after family notification. No further details were available in the initial reports.
