Romeoville’s busiest crossroads is getting a serious caffeine upgrade. Dutch Bros Coffee is set to open a drive-thru shop at Romeo Towne Center on the southeast corner of Weber Road and Grand Boulevard. Village materials show the stand will occupy roughly 1,200 square feet in the center, and officials have not yet announced an opening date.
Plan Goes Before Planners
The proposal, filed as PROJ26-0738, landed on the Romeoville Planning and Zoning Commission’s June agenda with a Dutch Bros project summary, site plan and elevations, according to the Romeoville agenda. If approved, the drive-thru would tuck into a compact slot along the Romeo Towne Center storefront row and add one more piece to the village’s broader push to reinvest along the Weber Road corridor.
Mayor Welcomes Reinvestment
Village leaders are clearly happy to see fresh activity at the high-profile corner. Mayor John Noak called the project a sign of reinvestment, saying, “We are excited to have this corner up and running with new businesses,” according to NBC Chicago. That report also notes the Romeoville Dutch Bros is expected to fill about a 1,200-square-foot space and that village officials have not provided a firm opening date.
Melrose Park Opening Signaled Demand
Romeoville is hardly the first local suburb to test Dutch Bros mania. When the chain opened its first Chicagoland shop in Melrose Park, long opening day lines wrapped around the lot, which local outlets treated as a pretty clear sign of pent-up suburban demand, according to Time Out Chicago. The Melrose Park location sits at 1931 N. Mannheim Rd., the company said in its debut announcement on PR Newswire, and that high profile opening helped spur a flurry of proposals across the suburbs.
Suburban Rollout Continues
The Romeoville shop is part of a growing list of area locations. Local reporting has flagged additional Dutch Bros plans in Elk Grove Village, Oak Park and Darien, among other suburbs. The chain has already opened stores in other parts of Illinois, and the Chicago area rollout appears to be one piece of a larger Midwest expansion, NBC Chicago reported.
