A fast-moving blaze ripped through a southwest Atlanta apartment building Friday evening on the 200 block of Fairburn Road SW, sending flames and thick smoke shooting from a third-floor unit before firefighters beat it back and pulled a non-ambulatory resident to safety. Crews kept the fire from spreading to neighboring apartments, and officials reported no civilian injuries.
According to CBS Atlanta, Atlanta Fire Rescue Department crews rolled up to find heavy fire and smoke pouring from the third-floor apartment, with flames already pushing into the attic and roof. Firefighters launched what officials described as an "aggressive interior attack," sweeping the building, stretching multiple hose lines and working room by room to knock the blaze down.
Crews assisted a non-ambulatory resident from a lower-floor unit as a precaution, CBS Atlanta reported. Firefighters were able to bring the flames under control before they breached adjacent apartments, and fire investigators were called out to start work on determining what sparked the blaze.

The Fairburn Road corridor has been no stranger to crisis runs in recent years. Neighbors told reporters the sight of flames licking out of the top-floor unit was rattling but said they were relieved firefighters boxed the blaze in before it could chew through more of the complex.
