A late-night confrontation outside a Fort Lauderdale hotel turned deadly early Tuesday after a woman jumped onto the hood of a man’s car during an altercation, then fell as the vehicle moved down the street. The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. in the 400 block of Southeast 32nd Street. Police say the woman was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, where she later died. The man behind the wheel stopped, called police, and has remained at the center of what investigators are calling an active case.
Officers initially responded to a report of a crash and quickly learned there was more to the scene than a simple wreck. According to NBC 6 South Florida, police discovered the man and woman had been involved in a physical altercation at a nearby hotel. Investigators told the station the woman climbed onto the hood of the car when the man tried to drive away and fell off while the vehicle was in motion. Authorities say the driver stopped the car and called 911.
"When police arrived at the scene, they found a woman who was critically injured," NBC 6 South Florida reported. She was taken to Broward Health Medical Center and later pronounced dead, the outlet said. Broward Health lists its Fort Lauderdale campus at 1600 S. Andrews Ave. City officials have not yet released the woman’s name as detectives continue their work.
