Memphis police have put new eyes on a Frayser shooting case by releasing surveillance video of a man they believe was involved in gunfire on Frayser Boulevard. Officers responded last Wednesday to the 2200 block, where they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital in non‑critical condition, and detectives are now urging anyone who recognizes the person in the footage to come forward.
MPD Shares Surveillance Clip, Suspect Description
According to the Memphis Police Department, detectives posted the video on July 9. The suspect is described as a Black male with medium-length dreadlocks or braids, wearing a black pullover, black pants, and black slides, and carrying a gray backpack.
The department says two males, including the victim, exchanged gunfire during the incident and that the other individual in the shootout is still unidentified. The MPD advisory includes the surveillance clip and asks anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 901‑528‑CASH.
Local Reporting And Tip Line
As reported by Action News 5, officers were called to the 2200 block and transported the injured man to a hospital in non‑critical condition. The station notes that police are banking on viewers to help put a name to the face seen in the surveillance footage and are repeating the push to contact CrimeStoppers with any solid leads.
Why Neighbors Are On Edge
The Frayser neighborhood has seen several shootings and increased police activity this spring, and neighborhood coverage has repeatedly flagged incidents along Frayser Boulevard. Local outlets, including reporting that gunfire rattled a Frayser block, have tracked earlier calls in the area. Investigators say that recent history makes community tips from residents and local cameras especially valuable.
Anyone with information about the person in the footage is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 901‑528‑CASH or submit an anonymous tip through CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby County. Tips can be anonymous and may be eligible for a reward, the department says, and detectives stress that even small details can help move the investigation forward.
