San Jose woke up under a gray, marine-layer blanket today, with low clouds and a cool 61°F at Mineta San Jose International Airport (KSJC). The gloomy start will not last all day, though, as the overcast is expected to thin by late morning, leaving inland neighborhoods basking in afternoon sun with highs in the low 80s.
Morning Fog, Sunny Afternoons
Patchy low clouds tied to a shallow marine layer are set to push inland early, then retreat back toward the coast by about 9 AM. Parts of the shoreline and Monterey Bay may hang onto the gray a lot longer, potentially through the afternoon, but most of the South Bay should turn bright and comfortable by midday. According to the National Weather Service, the marine layer will stick around through the weekend, keeping nighttime conditions on the cool side.
Weekend Warmth And A Bit More Humidity
Highs are forecast near 83°F today and about 84°F tomorrow, with a slow rise into the mid 80s expected by next Monday and Tuesday. Inland valleys will be the warm spots, while the immediate coast stays several degrees cooler. Forecast guidance points to a modest uptick in humidity and some mid and high clouds early next week as remnants of Tropical Storm Elida nudge a bit of moisture north, but significant rain is not on the table. Overnight lows should hold mostly in the upper 50s to low 60s.
What It Means For Commutes And Flights
Morning visibility may take a hit as the stratus lingers, so commuters may want to pad their schedules for early drives and school runs. Mineta San Jose and other South Bay terminals could see ceilings lower again tonight, and persistent northwest breezes of a few to around 9 mph may gust higher around hilltops and typical gap corridors. If your plans involve boating or a coastal escape, expect choppy seas and a growing southerly swell through the weekend.
No watches or warnings are in effect for the South Bay this morning, and forecasters say they will post updates if conditions change. For now, plan on cool evenings, sunny afternoons, and only a modest warm-up through midweek.
