A dog attack in Greenhills left two dogs dead and a resident injured, after two pit bulls went after a smaller dog and the chaos turned dangerous for a person who tried to intervene.
Greenhills police responded just after 3 p.m. last Thursday to a report of an attack involving two pit bulls and a smaller dog, according to WCPO 9 Cincinnati. A resident attempted to help the smaller dog and was bitten by one of the pit bulls.
Police said the bitten resident then shot that pit bull, which died at the scene. The second pit bull ran off but later returned home, while the smaller dog suffered severe injuries and was eventually euthanized.
Surviving Pit Bull Held Pending Hearing
The surviving pit bull was removed from its home pending a hearing to determine whether it should be designated a dangerous dog. The Hamilton County dog warden responded to the scene and will handle the additional proceedings.
Ohio's updated dog regulations, effective March 20, set out a formal process for dangerous-, vicious- and nuisance-dog designations. The Ohio Revised Code also provides owners with an opportunity to request a hearing to contest a designation.
Owner Cited After Attack
The owner of the pit bulls was cited for a fourth-degree misdemeanor, police said in the report published by WCPO 9 Cincinnati. Officials have not publicly announced a hearing date or the surviving dog's eventual legal status.
