The search for missing Franklinton resident George Stevens appears to have taken a tragic turn after Washington Parish deputies located suspected human remains in a rural area outside town. Authorities have stopped short of confirming that the remains belong to Stevens.
According to WDSU, deputies discovered the remains at about 4:49 p.m. Stevens was last reported seen at his home off East Fairgrounds Road in Franklinton and left in a 2006 blue Chevrolet pickup around 9 p.m.
Identification And Cause Of Death Still Unknown
The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office has described the find as suspected remains believed to be connected to Stevens, but officials have not yet announced a formal identification. The initial public statement did not provide a cause or manner of death or say whether investigators suspect foul play at this stage.
Remains Case Marks Second Grim Discovery This Year
This latest development comes on the heels of another remains case in Washington Parish earlier this year. In January, WDSU reported that remains found outside Bogalusa were believed to be those of missing man Carley Donald Provost Sr., although officials said at the time that the identification was not yet official.
