What looked like generous tipping at Hard Rock Stadium during the England–France World Cup match was, according to deputies, a carefully run hustle that skimmed thousands of dollars away from actual sales.
Three men working the game were arrested Sunday after Miami-Dade deputies say they ran a tip-fraud scheme that routed more than $10,000 into their own accounts instead of charging customers for food and drinks. A stadium manager first spotted a suspicious pattern on handheld point-of-sale devices across multiple World Cup shifts and called law enforcement, according to an arrest form.
WPLG Local 10 reports that the suspects were identified as Angel Matta, 38, of Miramar; Justin Samuel, 46, of Lauderdale Lakes; and Marcus Tribble, 37, of Lauderhill. The manager told deputies the workers were "providing the items for free" while recording the transactions as tips. Each handheld device required staff to log in with a unique identifier, which investigators say helped reveal the pattern.
Deputies said the same tactics showed up across six FIFA matches at the stadium and that the total amount recorded as tips instead of sales reached $10,138. All three men were booked on organized fraud and third-degree grand theft charges and were being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on $5,000 bonds each as of Sunday afternoon.

Sodexo Live!, the hospitality partner that staffs concessions at Hard Rock Stadium, runs food and beverage operations for a packed calendar of events at the venue, including this summer's World Cup matches, according to the company’s newsroom.
Reporting in the Sports Business Journal notes that Hard Rock hosted several World Cup fixtures on top of an already heavy summer events slate, which put repeated pressure on temporary point-of-sale staffing and equipment.
Charges and next steps
Each of the three men faces felony organized fraud of $20,000 or less and third-degree grand theft, according to WPLG Local 10. Court dates and any formal filings were not detailed in the initial coverage.
