Jim’s Ice Cream in Hillsboro is set to serve its final scoops this summer, roughly eight months after reopening from a year-long rebuild triggered by a car crash. Owner Adrian Wakefield says the building’s owner is selling the property and declined to renew the shop’s lease. She does not currently expect to open another location.
The shop’s final day will be Sunday, Aug. 23, according to OregonLive. Wakefield bought the business in 2016 after working in the building for more than two decades, making the closure the end of a deeply personal Hillsboro chapter as well as a neighborhood fixture.
Jim’s Had Just Reopened After A Devastating Crash
Jim’s own website FAQ says a car struck the building on Thanksgiving morning in 2024, causing damage that took more than a year to repair. The shop reopened on Dec. 12, 2025, after the long rebuild.
The original crash sent two people to the hospital, including a pedestrian who was pinned beneath debris, while the driver of the vehicle that hit the shop was also injured, FOX 12 Oregon reported. Hillsboro police and firefighters temporarily supported the structure, which officials said was uninhabitable, while Wakefield tried to navigate insurance claims, repairs and permits.
A New Shop Would Cost More Than $100,000
According to OregonLive, Wakefield estimates that building a new ice cream store from scratch would cost about $100,000. The building dates to the 1970s, when it operated as a Baskin-Robbins, and the shop was rebranded as Jim’s Ice Cream in 2014.
For now, Jim’s remains an owner-operated shop offering dozens of flavors and locally produced dairy treats, as described on its official website. But unless circumstances change, Hillsboro’s summer ice cream routine will lose one of its longtime stops after Aug. 23.
