One person was killed and six others were seriously hurt, including two children, in a multi-vehicle crash on a crowded holiday evening in Hallandale Beach. The collision happened shortly before 6 p.m. in the 200 block of East Dania Beach Boulevard and quickly snarled traffic on what was already a busy night. Emergency crews treated victims at the scene and rushed six people to a nearby trauma center. Authorities have not released the victims’ identities or said what might have caused the crash.
According to the Miami Herald, Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue reported that one person was already dead when paramedics arrived. Six others, including two children, were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital, Battalion Chief Michael Kane told the paper. The agency identified the crash site as the 200 block of East Dania Beach Boulevard and said crews were actively working the scene while investigators gathered details.
Holiday Traffic, Packed Roads and a Trouble Spot
The wreck unfolded on one of the nation’s busiest travel nights, as AAA projected heavy road travel over the July Fourth period. More cars on the road can mean more congestion and more chances for something to go wrong, and local planners have long had their eye on east Broward corridors for safety upgrades. A Broward MPO review notes frequent pedestrian and bicycle crashes on beach-area streets and calls for targeted countermeasures.
Investigators have not publicly identified the person who died or offered a likely cause of the collision. As the Miami Herald reported, the Broward Sheriff’s Office investigation remains ongoing and more information is expected once officials complete their work at the scene.
