A Thursday morning drive on northbound Interstate 55 near Towanda, Illinois, ended in tragedy for a 17-year-old from North Bend, Nebraska, when the car she was driving collided with an SUV and she was ejected from the vehicle, according to authorities.
As reported by WJBC, McLean County Coroner Kathleen Yoder identified the victim as Jacey N. Buresh and said she was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash happened at about 11:45 a.m. near mile marker 173 and involved a car and an SUV. Officials have not publicly said whether anyone in the SUV was injured.
Investigation Underway
The McLean County Coroner's Office and the Illinois State Police are investigating the crash. Coroner Kathleen Yoder told reporters that Buresh died of multiple blunt-force injuries after being ejected from her vehicle, and investigators are still gathering evidence. Back in Nebraska, the loss is being felt deeply at North Bend Central Schools, where district leaders say they are grieving and trying to support students and staff. Counseling will be available at North Bend Central High School, according to local coverage.
