A vacant Lauderhill home took the full force of an overnight crash early Wednesday, when a pickup truck punched through the front of the building and came to rest inside. Police said the driver was impaired, and no injuries were reported.
Officers responded around 1:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle striking a home, according to CBS Miami. The truck broke through two cement walls before stopping in a room that appeared to be a converted garage, leaving significant damage. The property was vacant when the crash happened.
Driver Taken Into Custody For DUI
Lauderhill police determined that the unidentified driver was impaired and took the person into custody for DUI, CBS Miami reported. Authorities have not released the driver’s name or provided additional details about what led to the crash, and the investigation remains active.
Separate Lauderhill Crash Also Hit A Home
The wreck follows a separate Lauderhill incident in April, when a police pursuit connected to an alleged bank robbery ended with a Kia crashing into a home’s concrete wall, according to Local 10. Residents in that case were reported safe, but Wednesday’s crash appears to have caused more extensive damage despite the home being unoccupied.
Investigators have not said how fast the truck was traveling or why it left the roadway. Police are expected to release more information as the DUI investigation moves forward.
