Yesterday at Joe Pool Lake ended in tragedy when the body of a 27-year-old man was recovered from the water in Grand Prairie, officials said. Public-safety divers with the city pulled the swimmer from the lake, and county records later confirmed his identity. Authorities said he was not wearing a life vest, a detail that has prompted another round of safety warnings for anyone heading out on the water.
The Fort Worth Star‑Telegram reported that the Grand Prairie Fire Department was called to the lake at about 7:20 p.m., where the department’s Public Safety Dive Team launched a search and ultimately recovered the man’s body. According to the outlet, the department’s release again urged residents to use life vests whenever they are on the water.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office identifies the victim as Akshath Singh. The office has not yet listed an official manner of death, and authorities have not released further information about exactly how the drowning occurred, while the investigation remains open.
Officials Renew Life Vest Warnings After Lake Death
The Grand Prairie Fire Department said Singh was not wearing a personal flotation device and repeated its standard lake-safety guidance in a department release. That reminder tracks with earlier news releases from the department following previous drownings at Joe Pool Lake. An earlier notice is posted on the City of Grand Prairie website, where officials stress the importance of life vests and basic water precautions.
How The Search Unfolded
Local media also picked up the story and the department’s safety message. CBS Texas reported that officers were dispatched to Joe Pool Lake after getting a call about a swimmer who went under the water and did not resurface. The outlet said the Public Safety Dive Team then searched the area, located Singh, and pulled him from the lake.
Recent Beach Closures And Water Checks This Month
Earlier in July, the City of Grand Prairie temporarily shut down the swim beaches at Loyd Park and Lynn Creek after a Trinity River Authority line break raised concerns about water quality. Sampling later cleared those areas, and the city reopened the beaches last Friday. Officials noted at the time that all other areas of Joe Pool Lake stayed open while they monitored conditions and water quality.
Investigators have not released additional details about the events leading up to Singh’s drowning. The Dallas County Medical Examiner will determine the final cause of death. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Grand Prairie Police Department.
