A vehicle’s attempt to pass another car on a rural Kendall County road ended in a deadly head-on crash Wednesday afternoon, leaving a 49-year-old man dead and a woman and two children injured. The collision shut down the road for hours as deputies and emergency crews worked the scene.

The crash happened at about 1:41 p.m. on Galena Road west of Clark Road in Little Rock Township, when a westbound vehicle moved to pass another westbound vehicle and struck an eastbound vehicle, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office. The 49-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three Other People Taken To Hospital

A 38-year-old woman and two children were transported to a local hospital with significant injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, the Chicago Tribune reported. The dead man’s identity was being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Galena Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours during the on-scene investigation. Plano police, the Little Rock-Fox Fire Protection District, Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District and the Kendall County Coroner’s Office assisted the sheriff’s office, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.
