Last night's shooting in Cincinnati's Avondale neighborhood sent one person to the hospital, after the victim showed up at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with a gunshot wound that police later traced back to Burton Avenue.
Police: Victim Taken To UC Medical Center
Officers say they were notified around 9:02 p.m. that a gunshot victim had arrived at UC Medical Center. Investigators then worked backward to pinpoint the scene, ultimately determining the shooting happened near the 900 block of Burton Avenue, according to FOX19. The station reported that Cincinnati police had no suspect information at the time of publication and that detectives were still trying to piece together how and where the gunfire started. Authorities have not gone beyond confirming that the victim was hospitalized, and they have not released additional details on the person’s condition.
Avondale's Recent Shooting Trend
This latest overnight gunfire adds to a troubling run of violence in Avondale as the weather warms up. Earlier this month, three people were hospitalized after shots were fired near Reading Road and Hutchins Avenue, as reported by WCPO. In May, a separate shooting on a Metro bus near the Cincinnati Zoo left one person dead and led to an arrest, according to WLWT. Those incidents, along with the latest case on Burton Avenue, have brought repeated calls from police for community tips as detectives review surveillance video and interview witnesses.
