A Batavia Township man is facing charges after a late-night confrontation on Sweetbriar Drive ended with a 40-year-old man shot in the left leg, authorities said. The injury was described as non-life-threatening, and the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators say it started as a verbal dispute that escalated into gunfire.
The shooting happened just after 11:05 p.m. yesterday in the 100 block of Sweetbriar Drive in Batavia Township, according to WLWT. The station reports the victim was taken to Clermont Mercy Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left leg that officials called non-life-threatening. Witness statements and surveillance video led investigators to track a suspect vehicle to another nearby address.
Detectives identified 37-year-old Nathaniel Lee as the suspect and arrested him without incident at a home in the 300 block of Shannon Circle, according to the Clermont County Sheriff's Office jail roster. County records show Lee was booked into the Clermont County jail on July 17 and is being held pending court action.
Lee told investigators he confronted the man over comments the man allegedly made to a family member, and claimed the other man reached into the vehicle, causing a handgun to fall and discharge, according to the sheriff's account reported by WLWT. Investigators also say Lee admitted to carrying a rifle during the run-in and that area surveillance showed the suspect vehicle as a white Honda Accord.
Charges And Court Date
Lee is charged with felonious assault and endangering children and is scheduled for a bond hearing today, July 17, per the county jail listing. Felonious assault is defined under Ohio law at Ohio Rev. Code § 2903.11, which covers causing or attempting to cause serious physical harm or using a deadly weapon. Endangering children is set out at Ohio Rev. Code § 2919.22, which addresses conduct that creates a substantial risk to a child's health or safety.
Investigation Details
Investigators say surveillance footage helped track the vehicle from the Sweetbriar Drive scene to the Shannon Circle address, where deputies took Lee into custody without incident. The arrest and charges land in the middle of a year that has already seen scattered violence in and around Batavia Township, local reporting highlighted a June 2025 bar shooting at Hoppy's Place that left a man hospitalized, an incident covered in detail by June bar shooting at Hoppy's Place.
The investigation into the Sweetbriar Drive shooting is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Clermont County Sheriff's Office. This story will be updated as additional court records and official statements become available.
