What started as a gripe over line-cutting at a Westwood convenience store turned into a chaotic shootout Saturday night, leaving two men critically wounded and customers diving for cover in the parking lot on West Raines Road, according to Memphis police.
Surveillance Shows Tense Argument Turn Violent
Surveillance video and witness statements describe a routine annoyance that spiraled fast. Two customers began arguing after one accused the other of cutting in line. At one point, one man lifted his shirt to show a handgun, ratcheting up the tension inside the store.
Police say the brother of the second customer walked out, came back to the store, and opened fire. Both brothers then exchanged shots before taking off in a white GMC, investigators said. Two men were critically injured in the chaos. One was rushed to a hospital in a private vehicle, while the other was taken by emergency responders.
Officers later detained one of the brothers outside the hospital and recovered a handgun from his waistband, according to Fox13 Memphis.
Detectives Sorting Out Who Fired What
Investigators are now combing through surveillance footage and comparing it with witness accounts to figure out who fired which shots and whether the weapons displayed inside the store were the same ones used in the parking-lot gunfire.
So far, police have not announced any charges. Detectives are still conducting interviews and processing evidence as they try to piece together the exact sequence of events.
