San Diego detectives are once again turning up the volume on a case that has weighed on Logan Heights for years, renewing their plea for help in solving the 2018 drive-by killing of 28-year-old Arthur Jordan. Officials have now tacked a $50,000 governor’s reward onto an existing $1,000 Crime Stoppers offer, bringing the total to $51,000 as investigators try to breathe life into a cold case. Jordan was shot while sitting in a parked car in Logan Heights around 12:30 AM on July 19, 2018, and later died at a hospital.
According to the San Diego Police Department, Jordan was a passenger in a vehicle parked at 3000 Martin Avenue when an unidentified dark sedan rolled past and someone inside opened fire, sending multiple rounds into the parked car. Officers later found the victims’ vehicle at Park Boulevard and El Cajon Boulevard, where they rendered medical aid before Jordan was taken to a hospital and ultimately pronounced dead. The department’s 2018 release publicly identified Jordan and listed the Homicide Unit tip line for anyone willing to come forward.
Governor Adds $50,000 To Reward Pool
The Governor’s Office has put up $50,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction, while San Diego County Crime Stoppers is offering another $1,000, according to the Governor’s Office and the Crime Stoppers case page. "We are very thankful for the Governor’s support in our efforts to find justice for Mr. Jordan and his family," San Diego Police Department Detective Chris Murray said in the governor’s announcement. Investigators say the boosted reward is designed to shake loose new leads after years in which little useful information has surfaced.
Case Remains Cold, Family Urges Tips
Despite extensive witness interviews and forensic work, the trail has gone quiet and homicide detectives say leads have largely run out, according to local reporting. As reported by 10News, investigators and Jordan’s relatives are pinning fresh hopes on the expanded reward to finally move the case forward. In 2023, a detailed recap of the case underscored how community tips largely dried up in the years after the shooting.
How To Report A Tip
Anyone with information is asked to contact the SDPD Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 888-580-8477. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online or via a mobile app at San Diego County Crime Stoppers. Investigators stress that even small or seemingly minor details, such as a vehicle description, a nickname, or old surveillance footage, could be enough to revive leads. Officials are urging anyone who lived in or near the Martin Avenue area on the night of July 19, 2018, to review any saved phone videos and to speak up.
